Valentine’s Day Ideas That Don’t Suck

Let’s be honest, Valentine’s Day isn’t as much about love as it is about lust.  Lust for roses and chocolates, indulgent gifts, dim lit dinners, romance…and sex, lots and lots of sex.  It’s the greatest propellant of industry in modern day economy.  So ladies, why not get what you want?  Maybe you didn’t even know you wanted it!

Whether you plan on staying in or having a night on the town, no matter if your budget is big or small, there is a little something here for everyone.  So without further adieu, allow me to share some ideas with you.  Fellas, take note.

Garden Isles Dress  by For Love and Lemons – This gorgeous lace dress is lined in all the right places and sheer in the legs and waist so you can show your best features off. The Garden Isle features a built in bottom so you don’t need to worry about finding the right undergarment to wear underneath.

A great restaurant with the right ambiance is all it really takes for me.  Most times I’d rather be wined and dined than open a gift box, but that’s just me.  Perch is a spot that I admittedly don’t go to often enough, but not because I don’t love it.  It has spectacular views of downtown LA and a superb indoor/outdoor dining area to take it all in.  If your karma meter is full, you’ll get the table by the fireplace, it adds a nice touch of ambiance to the twinkling patio lights.  Luckily for you, they’re doing a special menu for V-Day brunch and if you’re wondering if that includes bottomless mimosas, sangria and a breakfast bar, the answer is yes.  Reserve your nest now!

Fellas, if you really want to impress your lady with a bundle of beautiful flowers, skip the local grocer and head to a farmer’s market.  The arrangements are bound to be more unique, fresh and smell intoxicatingly delicious.  Plus, you can feel good knowing you’re supporting your community.  To find a farmer’s market in your area, click here.

Girls will always love getting gifts like these.  I love this versatile top by Skivvies.  This bralette inspired top has a nude mesh shell with burgundy floral lace overlay, extended length, adjustable straps, and customized hardware. Let it peek out of your tanks, or wear it for a private audience only.  Oh la la!

Here’s an idea for him or her.  Lush has incredible products that are healthy for your skin and leave it feeling soft and outright edible.  Helpful for those nights of friction between the sheets…or wherever else you may plan on bumping uglies.  Check out their Valentine’s gift sets for ideas or customize your own basket.

Call it cliché but I happen to think this lariat arrow necklace by Free People is sickeningly adorable and stereotypical to perfection.  Also, it comes in a mini corked bottle and you know how girls love mini…well, mostly.  😉

I’ve never met a person who doesn’t like receiving spa treatments, regardless of holiday, time of night, day or year.  Treat your honey to a rejuvenating experience at a luxury spa near you.  Condé Nast made it easy to find just what you’re looking for whether it be traditional treatments, holistic, detox and more.  Click here to access their directory.

I dream of Bottega Louie on a regular basis.  Their desserts are confectionist masterpieces that one could almost feel guilty for eating…almost.  Fortunately for you, they can ship these bad boys anywhere.  Check out their Valentine’s Day gift boxes before they’re all gone and feel free to send an extra one my way while you’re at it!

Wine tasting is a great date idea.  I love the tapas style of trying small bites of aromatic foods paired with their pungent, wine counterparts.  If your sommelier is good, they will explain each wine; its origin, history and enlighten your tastebuds with delicious knowledge.  It’s pretty much the grown and sexy version of dinner and a show.

Giving loveGiving back is the best gift by far.  Spread love by donating to a charity of your choice in your sweetheart’s name.  This is gift that holds much more significance than any bouquet or lingerie set.  CharityNavigator.org compiled some great top 10 lists to help you narrow down which charity is right for you.  Go on, share the love!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
